Paul T. Sterbutzel is the Chairman and co-founder of DBE Software, Inc. His responsibilities include managing the company, formulating and executing long-term strategies, and for all interactions with investors and other stakeholders. He also heads strategic partnerships and alliances. He co-founded DBE in the mid ‘90s with his longtime associate Luiz Siqueira.

Prior to DBE, Paul had founded, built and sold several IT corporations. His previous company, PC Manager, Inc. was a PC database company that evolved into a pioneer of the PC image database marketplace. PC Manager, Inc. was sold to Datacard International in the early ‘90s.

In the ‘70s and early 80’s, Paul and partner, Steve Johnson, built Johnson Systems, Inc. into the preeminent program products business in the IBM mainframe world. When JSI was sold to Computer Associates, Inc. in 1984, JSI’s Job Accounting Report System (JARS) garnered an 80% market share and it is still sold to this day.

Paul has been an IT visionary since being introduced to computing in the late ‘50s” at Douglas Aircraft in Southern California. After a stint in the Marines, he accepted a position at Planning Research Corporation to develop a munitions management system for the Navy during the Vietnam War. He then participated in starting Comnet, a time-sharing company that was immediately taken public. He then returned to PRC to establish a data center company to support internal and Washington, DC commercial activities.

Paul currently resides in McLean, VA, an edge city to Washington, D.C.

Luiz’s responsibilities as President and CTO of DBE Software, Inc. include product architecture and direction for Database Examiner. He is the technical liaison to the client base, both current and future. He has guided the product development since he co-founded DBE Software, Inc. in the mid ‘90s with his long time associate Paul Sterbutzel.

Before DBE, Luiz was an IT entrepreneur in Brazil where he founded several software entities including SCI, which grew to be one of the largest software companies in South America. SCI distributed software from major US software houses in Brazil, such as Applied Data Research, Johnson Systems, Cincom Systems, CA, etc. It was at SCI that Luiz developed his passion for databases. At that time, the Brazilian hardware industry was being developed and Luiz led the team that developed the first relational database management system for one of the local machines.

Before his entrepreneurship in Brazil he was the Development Director for IBGE (Brazilian Census Bureau), where he led the development and processing of the 1970 Brazilian Census and the Brazilian Federal Budget.

In 1970, Luiz lived in Boston and worked with Peat Marwick & Mitchell. There he developed and implemented simulation programs for colleges and universities.

His first job after UCLA was with Burroughs Corporation where he participated in the development of the MCP operating system for the B-6500 mainframe.

From 1966 to 1967, Luiz worked for IBM France where he developed heuristic programming applications using PL/1. He also did some consulting for the Brazilian Embassy in Paris.

Luiz’s education includes an Electrical Engineering degree from the Pontificia Universidade Católica (PUC) in Rio de Janeiro and a Master’s in Business Administration with a major in Information Systems from UCLA. During his school years in Brazil, he co-developed software applications for the Brazilian Committee for Energy; these applications helped the construction of dams and hydroelectric plants in the southern region of Brazil. While at UCLA, he worked for the Campus Computing Network, where he assisted many of the users in debugging their applications.

Luiz currently resides in Vienna, VA.

During Ray’s 40 year career in the software industry, he has been dedicated to helping businesses and government agencies understand the importance of the Relational Model. Ray joined DBE Software to continue this course of action, since DBE Software is the only company that has built a technology that ensures the database design is compliant with the relational model, has integrity and consitency.

Prior to DBE Software, Ray was a worldwide lecturer, giving full day educational sessions entitled, ‘The Relational Information Management Environment’. His audience included Fortune 2000 companies and government agencies. Ray’s lectures focused on how to share normalized relational data structures, thereby eliminating the proliferation of inaccurate data that became corrupted in organizations directionally proportional to time. Attending his lectures were Senior Level Executives, Chief Information Officers, Information Technology Directors, Data Designers, Data Administrators, and Data Base Administrators.

In the late 1990s, Ray was the International Director of Sales and Marketing for Information Builders focusing on their Data Warehousing product line. In the early 1990s, Ray ran International Operations for Logic Works, the world leader in Data Modeling, focusing on their ERwin Data Modeling System.

In the 1970s and 1980s, Ray held several different positions in the computer hardware and software industries. Ray started his career as a computer programmer for the Burroughs Corporation. Ray worked his way through Applied Data Research (the first independent software company in the world) over a fourteen year period beginning his career as a salesman and was promoted over the years to the position of Chief Executive Officer and President of Applied Data Research International. When Computer Associates acquired Applied Data Research, Ray became a Senior Vice President reporting to the CEO of CA. At that time, CA was the number two software company in the world. Ray has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics from East Carolina University and resides in Allentown, NJ.

Tom Sterbutzel is the Director of Business Development of DBE Software, Inc. His duties include fostering new business relationships and partnerships as well as client relations with the existing client base.

Tom has been with DBE since the inception of the company in 1993 in many capacities. Prior to DBE, he was with PC Manager, Inc., a company he co-founded in the ‘80s, that offered DBMS technology and was a pioneer in image database technology. PCM was sold to Datacard International in the early ‘90s.

Tom has a Bachelors degree in Economics from the University of Virginia. He lives in McLean, VA.

Gabe O’Neill is the Director of Product Development at DBE Software.

His responsibilities include growth and maintenance of our database technology product line: Database Examiner, CA ERwin Data Model Validator, and Embarcadero’s Schema Examiner. His oversight has led to the robust offering Database Examiner is today. He is also responsible for client technical support.

Prior to DBE, Gabe was at Booz-Allen and I-Net. In 1993, he received some acclaim when Bill Gates introduced him at FOSE, where he presented his “Booking Station” product to over 5000 attendees.

Gabe was part of the software development team at PC Manager in the 80s, where he was instrumental in the creation of PC Album, an early entry in the imaging database marketplace. It was there that he cemented his relationship with Paul Sterbutzel, a principal at both PCM and DBE.

Gabe currently resides in Frederick, MD.
